PROJECT 1
Group (30%)
Task:
The assignment involves a group case study on a notable building in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor. Students must analyze five architectural and two structural materials used in the building, with one material selected for detailed experiential analysis and installation illustration. The results will be presented on an A1 board, covering the building's history, material details, a focused analysis, building images, and a concluding summary.
Our group chose Istana Budaya as our designated building for research. We started by conducting a site visit and thoroughly examining the building’s facade, paying close attention to the materials used both on the exterior and interior.
After some changes and revisions, our group has finally finalized the board based on the guidance of Mr. Edwin Chan, our designated tutor.
This project provided me with a comprehensive understanding of architectural and structural materials. I learned to differentiate between various materials, describe their applications, and demonstrate their installation processes. This hands-on experience has enriched my knowledge and provided a solid foundation in materials and structures, which is essential for my architectural education.
Digital Literacy:
The project significantly improved my digital literacy skills. Conducting in-depth research on the building required me to effectively use digital tools and resources. This experience enhanced my ability to analyze and present complex information clearly, which is crucial for any architectural project.
Citizenship and Global Perspective:
The module expanded my perspective on citizenship and global contexts. By exploring diverse building materials and their applications, I gained new insights into architectural practices and cultural influences. This broadened my understanding and introduced me to materials and concepts that were previously unfamiliar, deepening my appreciation of architectural diversity.
