PROJECT 2

Individual (40%)

Task:

Students must show their grasp of construction principles by producing a detailed construction section from roof to foundation and a physical model reflecting their ADII project design. They also need to include a unique special detail in their assignment.

Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of basic structural principles, including the differences between load-bearing walls and post-and-beam structures. I also learned about various construction materials and their proper applications. With the guidance of Mr. Edwin Chan, I developed a foundational knowledge of how structures work and the importance of designing with constructability in mind. This experience has highlighted that understanding building construction is just as crucial as the design process itself.

Digital Literacy:

Researching and studying precedents were key components of this project, allowing me to explore different structural systems and materials. This process enhanced my digital literacy skills as I navigated various resources to gather and analyze information, deepening my understanding of construction methods and design integration.

Intrapersonal Skills:

Working on detailed structural drawings and learning how to hatch materials accurately helped me develop strong intrapersonal skills. I gained confidence in my ability to convey complex information through detailed drawings and learned to appreciate the intricacies of structural design and material application.

Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills:

This project challenged me to think critically about creating buildable structures, including addressing the complexities of cantilevers and other unique constructions like stairs and windows. It pushed me to find practical solutions to structural challenges, enhancing my problem-solving abilities and reinforcing the importance of thoughtful design in architecture.
