PROJECT 2
Nature Observatory Post
(30% Group)
TASK:
Students will design a Nature Observatory Post in the National Botanical Garden, allowing visitors to observe and connect with nature. The post should fit two people, cover 50 square meters, and provide an immersive experience. Designs should be creative, sustainable, and environmentally friendly, reflecting thoughtful planning and a strong grasp of architecture and nature.
On May 9th, our batch did a site visit to Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam. My tutorial group was assigned Camar Rimba as our designated site. My group members, consisting of three people, explored the area to find a suitable location for our nature observatory post. We conducted site observation and data collection, and chose stargazing as the activity for our observatory post.
Based on the data collected during our site visit, we created site analysis diagrams and developed a design informed by the data and diagrams we produced.
This project has taught me a great deal, particularly in three key areas: communication skills, thinking and problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Communication Skills:
Working on this project highlighted the importance of effective communication, especially within a team setting with limited time. I learned how to articulate my ideas clearly and listen to others, ensuring that our team remained cohesive and aligned on our goals. This experience has shown me how vital it is to maintain open communication, which helped us stay on track and tolerate each other's differences, ultimately leading to a more unified and successful outcome.
Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills:
Through the process of site analysis and diagram creation, I developed stronger problem-solving skills. I learned how to produce clear and effective diagrams that not only identified specific site issues but also proposed solutions to address them. This skill is crucial in architecture, as it allows for a more informed and structured approach to design, ensuring that the final product is both functional and responsive to the environment.
Interpersonal Skills:
This project also helped me enhance my interpersonal skills, particularly in working closely with others. I learned from my teammates, particularly in areas where I had less experience, such as model-making, drawing techniques, and using markers. By observing and collaborating with my team members, I gained valuable insights that will improve my future projects. The experience of working together, learning from each other, and supporting one another was enriching and has significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth.
