PROJECT 2
SPACE AND SENSORY: SELF-EXPLORATION THROUGH SPACES
(60% INDIVIDUAL)
TASK:
In this project phase, the model from Project 1 is reinterpreted, guided by a new design intent emphasizing the architectural experience of Path-Portal-Place. Materials like concrete, timber, steel, and glass are selected and thoroughly researched for their properties and characteristics. The reinterpretation undergoes extensive testing through sketches and drawings, with a focus on sensorial enhancement. The final stage encompasses the execution of key drawings, including an exploded axonometric, floor plans, sections, and elevations, complemented by diagrams. The presentation integrates verbal articulation and visual representation, with the final model assembled on a presentation board.
Initiated by gathering inspiration from various platforms, I conducted research to reinterpret my initial project. Following this, I engaged in sketching and creating test models. These iterations were presented to my tutor to receive feedback, allowing for refinement and enhancement of my design.
Following several weeks of tutorial sessions, the design was ultimately finalized. Subsequently, I proceeded to craft the final model and create the presentation boards.
This project has been a valuable learning experience, emphasizing the significance of time management and adhering to schedules. It has instilled in me qualities of strength, resilience, and unwavering focus on tasks. The project also taught me the importance of self-focus, avoiding unnecessary comparisons with others while striving to give my best. Understanding the significance of a narrative in design, as well as the importance of design intention and exploration, has been a key takeaway. The constructive feedback from the tutor has been instrumental in pushing me to think creatively and beyond conventional boundaries.
Intrapersonal Skills:
This project honed my intrapersonal skills by underscoring the importance of time management. It instilled a sense of dedication and commitment as I learned to follow schedules diligently, showcasing the vital role these qualities play in successful project completion.
Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills:
The project was a playground for developing thinking and problem-solving skills. It pushed me to think creatively and explore unconventional solutions to architectural challenges. Each problem encountered became an opportunity for innovative problem-solving, fostering a mindset that values creativity in addressing design issues.
Lifelong learning:
The iterative design process and feedback integration were pivotal in nurturing a sense of lifelong learning. Embracing feedback from tutors became a continuous learning process, encouraging me to refine and enhance my designs iteratively. This experience emphasized that learning extends beyond formal education and is embedded in the ongoing refinement of one's skills and approaches.
